Our MMX papercraft model!

Have you ever wished you could build your own Martian Moons eXploration spacecraft at home? We felt the same! Our engineers at the MMX project have been hard at work designing a papercraft that reproduces the spacecraft as accurately as possible. So gather your art supplies, and get ready to become an MMX specialist!

Please take care when cutting out the template.

Tools:

  • Retractable utility knife
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Glue or double-sided sticky tape
  • Thick paper for printing the template (paper for printing photos is recommended)
  • PC printer

The template of parts can be downloaded here: [papercraft template]

And the instructions from here: [papercraft instructions]

The instructions are in Japanese, but there are plenty of pictures.

Under construction!

Our passionate engineers wanted everyone to be able to build a space-worthy replica out of paper. As a result, the MMX papercraft is very detailed with many small parts. Children may need help from an adult during assembly.

The location of our observation instruments and equipment is marked on the template. You can find out how these will be used by checking the descriptions on the MMX website. Can you spot where our rover will be stored?

The completed papercraft model of MMX

The end result should look like a spacecraft ready for the Martian moons! Please share your successes (or launch fails) with us on twitter with the hashtag #MMXPapercraft!
